People in southern Africa

The most beautiful part of travelling is meeting people. When I was in southern Africa I loved talking to the locals. And, much to my surprise, they were eager to pose for my camera.

I loved the laughter of the African people I met. They could laugh because they were genuinely happy for others. Or just be happy about something funny.

Joy and sadness went hand in hand in the township Mondesa (Namibia).

I will never forget the woman who told me she just lost her baby-daughter. She and her husband stayed by her bed in the hospital for days, but there was nothing anyone could do.

Her husband drowned his sadness in the shebeen (a township bar), and got agressive when he was drunk.

Not only did she lose her baby-daughter. She lost her husband too. But she smiled anyway.
